Mark Rivadeneyra

 

With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, more than 20 of those at the club level, Coach Mark Rivadeneyra possesses a wealth of volleyball knowledge.  Over the past three decades he has built a reputation for his attention to detail and focus on proper preparation, following John Wooden's adage of, "Do not mistake activity for achievement."

During his coaching career, Coach Riva has guided his teams to success both as collective units and as individuals.  He has been the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Corona Del Mar High School (Boys and Girls), San Clemente High School (Girls), and Dana Hills High School (Girls).  Respected by his colleagues for his knowledge of the game, Coach Riva has also assisted numerous other high school programs in the Orange County area.  As a coach, he is a two-time CIF Champion (Dana Hills High School - Boys, 1986 and University High School - Girls, 2005).  Currently, Coach Riva is the Assistant Boys Varsity Coach at Dana Hills High School where he expects to make another CIF Championship run in 2014.  Numerous players coached and trained by Coach Riva have gone on to compete and find success at the collegiate level. 

Prior to coaching, Coach Riva attended San Clemente High School where he was a three year starter and CIF Champion (1976).  From there he went on to compete at Orange Coast College for a year before transferring to UC Santa Barbara.  He completed his studies at UC Irvine where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences. 

In addition to coaching, Coach Riva is entering his 26th year of teaching with the Capistrano Unified School District.  He possesses three teaching credentials and currently teaches computer graphics / video production at Marco Forster Middle School.  He and his wife of 25 years, Susie, live in San Clemente and have three sons: Aaron (24), Kyle (22), and Tanner (21).
